Endodontics

Endodontic treatment, commonly known as root canal therapy, relieves the extreme pain and discomfort caused by infections in the soft tissues of your teeth. Every tooth is filled with a soft tissue core known as the pulp. It contains blood and nerve tissues that come up through the root canal of the tooth, nourishing the tooth as it grows and develops. Endodontic treatment is required when this soft tissue becomes infected. When the pulp becomes infected it is very painful and uncomfortable requiring timely treatment.

Root canal therapy is the endodontic treatment to remove the pulp from the infected tooth. Once the pulp has been removed, the root canal is cleaned thoroughly and disinfected to remove all bacteria. The cavity that is left is then carefully filled and sealed to prevent any future return of the infection. The treatment allows teeth that would once have been extracted to now be saved, retaining full colour and functionality of the tooth as normal
